Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries have become indispensable in everyday life. They are used in many different areas, such as
- portable consumer electronics (mobile phones, smart phones, notebooks)
- Household electronics
- Electric mobility (hybrid vehicles, electric cars, pedelecs, electric bicycles, electric scooters)
- Power tools (drills, grinders, saws, etc.)
However, the amount of used batteries has increased along with their increasing popularity of use. It has therefore become necessary to develop a sustainable recycling method for the components of these batteries such as cobalt, copper, nickel, aluminum, and lithium.
The recycling of lithium-ion batteries requires the clean separation of materials.
Although existing methods of recycling can handle the recyclable materials cobalt, copper, nickel and aluminum, they require a high degree of purity in the separation of materials. Direct recycling of lithium-ion batteries is therefore problematic.
ROTH International has developed a sustainable process for stripping-down & recycling.
However, an innovative recycling method is required to make lithium reusable. So far, there are no specialist waste management companies offering this kind of technology. However, the small number of mining areas and the extreme increase in the use of lithium-ion batteries require a sustainable solution.

ROTH International - embracing the future with a new facility.
ROTH plans to build a new facility in Wernberg-Köblitz which will also include a recycling plant for the complete disposal and recycling of lithium-ion batteries.
Stripping-down procedure for lithium batteries.
We will take care of your lithium-ion batteries anywhere in the world, regardless of your location. The lithium-ion batteries will be discharged as a first step of the recycling process. It will even be possible to reuse the discharged energy from these batteries. This discharging step is an important prerequisite for effective disposal management during the recycling process. The batteries are then disassembled into their individual components. Particularly fastidious separation of the materials ensures the highest possible recycling level. This recycling process is particularly efficient as virtually all components of the batteries can be recycled. As a certified specialist disposal company in accordance with Section 56 of the German Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act (KrW-/AbfG), ROTH International will professionally dispose of all minor non-recyclable parts.
ROTH International will handle the integrated disposal of your lithium-ion batteries, including the following services:
- Recycling of lithium-ion batteries
- Disposal of lithium-ion batteries
Successful stripping-down into individual materials.
In addition to lithium-ion batteries, ROTH International also takes care of many other items / materials such as
- Stripping down wind power plants
- Stripping down rotor blades
- Stripping down aircraft
- Stripping down oil rigs
- Stripping down refineries
- Stripping down CFRP / GFRP
- Stripping down vessels / trains
We guarantee the successful disassembly, cutting, dismantling, recycling and disposal of your objects.
Our innovative methods are equally suitable for other objects.
ROTH International believes in constantly optimizing its methods. For example, we are also developing separation techniques designed to make the work processes even simpler and more efficient. This helps to increase the reuse value. ROTH also believes in the in-house enhancement of existing processes for cutting objects or recycling special materials. Thanks to our know-how and expertise, we also know how to dismantle, recycle and dispose of many other objects, such as for example:
- Hydro power plants
- Photovoltaic systems
- Chemical plants
- Dams, etc.
